NanoSSD : Selling Soon.

In the next few weeks the Japanese company Elecom will be releasing to Nano Solid State Drives that plug directly into your SATA slot. The two drives in question, called the ESD-IDSAA series, measure a miniscule 25 x 39 x 6.5 mm. They could be used as a startup drive on a main system, or as a primary drive on a super small Mini-ITX system. Either way they’re cool, and are another indication of the future of SSDs. Lets just hope the price will shrink as well.

However with the pros of the size, the cons are the capacity size. Only available in 8GB or 16GB these wont be holding your HD movie collection but as suggested early in a micro or just as your OS drive they will work fine. With read rates of up to 75 MB/sec. and write rates of up to 30 MB/sec, fairly decent, they obviously don’t require much in the way of cooling and noise is a as minimal as you can get.

The drives wont be out for a couple of weeks but some places are taking pre-orders.
