Lucid Hydra Chip Onboard MSI P55 Big Bang Motherboard

The Lucid Hydra chip is not mentioned as frequently as many of the other latest technologies coming out but it could represent one of the most important changes for PCs in years.

Basically the Hydra is a multi- solution that balances all GPU workload before it’s sent to the GPU. This means that no CrossFire or SLI is needed and Lucid claim that the chip will be able to run and cards hand-in-hand! Up to 4 cards can be combined, regardless of brand, type, capacity, whatever, and they claim near-100% scaling.

Unfortunately this is still firmly in the rumour camp however Iopanel have posted pictures of the new MSI P55 Big Bang motherboard that includes the Hydra Chip.

If it is launched soon it will make multi GPU solutions considerably easier to implement and therefore making them much more mainstream.
